Timber Trail + rustic decor

Over here at the Primitive Home Decors blog, we're in the middle of a salute to braided jute rugs, and today our focus is on Timber Trail and rustic decor.

Rustic decor is something most often associated with cabins, lake houses and country vacation homes, but we personally love it for any home. The style incorporates neutral and woodsy tones, natural materials, and themes found outdoors and in nature.

Here are a few of our favorite rustic decorating tips from around the web...

From Better Homes and Gardens: Because the wood-clad shell of a rustic home has such drama and presence, dainty or precious furniture can get lost. Instead, choose furnishings that are large in scale and in visual weight. This is the place for an ebony leather sectional, a canopied four-poster, or a dining table that seats 12. Look for elements that use rough-and-tumble materials, such as braided rugs, a kitchen island with a butcher-block top, or light fixtures with punched-tin shades.

From HouseBeautiful.com: More on natural materials and themes. This 'barn' kitchen features reclaimed barn planks and a pot rack made to resemble a wagon wheel.

From HGTV: Warm lighting, natural tones and rustic accessories can give any room a vacation-y feeling.
