Now that it's officially spring, we've compiled a fun list of spring cleaning tips we've found around the internet, plus a few of our own!
Lighten the load. If you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it.
Do a switch-out. Switch things out seasonally, or for a special event, or whenever you want to play with a certain color or pattern. (Housebeautiful.com)
Reorganize your bookshelves. Use a funky pattern or rhmythm to break up the monotony of your shelves.
One in, one out. When you buy something new, get rid of something old.
Stock your stain-fighting kit. We love this one from MarthaStewart.com. Make sure you have the ingredients on hand to fight common stains like coffee, red wine and candle wax. (For a printable chart of common stains and what you need to remove them, see this stain chart.)
Overlooked Surfaces. You may overlook these surfaces on a daily basis, but once a year, give your baseboards, door frames, and walls a good scrub-down. Wash them with a sponge and a squirt of dish liquid mixed in a bucket of warm water. (Better Homes & Gardens)
Stop Clutter at the Front Door: Mount a plastic or cloth shoe rack inside your front entry closet door, and use it to stash all kinds of living room and family room miscellany—toys, hats, gloves, magazines. You can even designate one of the pockets for mail you’re not sure whether to save or toss. (Womansday.com)
Assess your seasonal decor. Go through your holiday drawer/box/cupboard (or in some cases, the entire attic!), identify any decorations you might be able to live without, and donate them. If you didn't use it last year, you probably won't use it next year either!
Does your attic look like this? Be honest.
DIY. You don't always need to buy expensive gadgets and cleaning products! Check out this coffee filter shoe deodorizer and more DIY cleaning tips on Pinterest!
Do you have any brilliant spring cleaning tips? Do you do a deep clean once a year or do you prefer to keep things more casual? ;)
