Hit the lights part II: 90 new lamps!

Hello and happy new year! We hope you had a fantastic holiday. We were pretty swamped for a while, but it's time to start blogging again....

We just added about 90 new accent lamps, table lamps and lamp shades from Park Designs, and since our first lighting post was so popular, we thought we should do another one to share some of these great new items with you.

Here are just a few of our favorites....

Accent lamps

These rustic onion lamps are so country, and really warm up a room.

New also are these unique and homey candelabra lamps in red and black:

(That shade you see above is the Penny Quilt shade and it's available in several different sizes, and also in black.)

These oil lamps offer another fun look. We think these country lamps can either be rustic and primitive, or really delicate and graceful, depending on your decor.

We also have a fantastic variety of candlestick lamps that really do look great in any room.

Lamp Shades

The punched tin lamp shades have always been a favorite of our customers, and we've added more styles, called the metal dot dash lamps.

An oldie but a goodie...the Sturbridge lamp shades in black and red. Classic, simple, these lamp shades match nearly any decor.

And as noted above, the Penny Quilt shade is available in black or red, and in 10" or 12" shades.

Country Scarecrow Dolls

Our latest addition to the Halloween Decor category are scarecrow dolls. Pictured below is a brief introduction and photo of the three new dolls added this week.

The Dorothy Scarecrow rag doll is almost 2 feet tall at 22" and includes the straw hat shown in the photo. Her hair is braided straw and she is wearing a plaid shirt under her overalls. The overalls are brown with gold stars and the cotton fabric shirt is a tan and brown check. Dorothy has a weighted bottom so she is easy to place on a doll chair, shelf or mantle.

The George Scarecrow raggedy doll makes a wonderful addition to your primitive Halloween decor collection. He is 22" tall and includes the straw hat shown in the photo. George is wearing a brown shirt with gold stars, tan striped cotton pants and a burlap bandana. George has a weighted bottom for easy placement on a chair shelf, bookcase or on the mantle.

The Marvin Scarecrow raggedy doll is 25" tall and includes the straw hat and bandana shown in the photo. Marvin is wearing a brown shirt with gold stars, tan striped cotton pants and a burlap bandana. He holds a tan plaid fabric pumpkin in his lap. Marvin has a weighted bottom for easy placement anywhere.

Halloween is Coming

Halloween is nearly upon us and I am just now getting around to sourcing new products for the occasion. Honey and Me and Harvest Scents have helped to get the new seasonal category off to a good start with nearly 20 new products in stock and more on the way.

A couple of the early favorites are the Trixie, Dixie And Flo Halloween Witch set and the Sally Pumpkin statue. The witches are smaller resin figurines about 6 inches tall and easy to ship, but the Sally Pumpkin piece is HUGE. She is made of wood and tin and stands over three feet tall. They are pictured below and the entire collection is online now in the Primitive Halloween section of the site.

One of the latest additions to the country decor site is wreath stands. Designed and distributed by a local Indiana designer, the wreath stands come in a variety of colors and sizes. From tabletop wreath stands to adjustable height (telescoping) wreath stands, we now have a full line-up to choose from. Each size and shape of wreath stand comes in a variety of colors and some sizes have different toppers. Single and double hook stands are available in most sizes.

Sorry about my last post / rant. I get really frustrated with dishonest people. Those USA Wallpaper folks really upset me.

Anyway, tonight's edition of the country home decor blog post is going to cover the Heritage Star Curtain and Decor pattern from IHF. Rather than posting pictures of all the individual window treatments and matching table coverings and decor accessories, I'm going to share the group pictures and give you a link to go review the entire pattern if you're interested. ("A little birdie" told me I had too many pictures...)

The Heritage Star curtain selections are made from homespun fabrics and the Heritage Star Design is a tan cotton accented by gold and burgundy stripes. Short Rant About Getting Ripped Off

I buy and sell products online everyday. I've ordered from huge companies like Amazon and Dell and little guys running eBay stores. I have never been more disappointed in a company than I am with USA Wallpaper.
I ordered a country valance (made by Park Designs) back in March. The USA Wallpaper customer service department notified me that the item was discontinued and out of stock, but they drafted my PayPal account anyway. The customer service agent told me that she was not authorized to issue a refund, but that she would send the refund request to the accounting department and they would process the refund during following month (April).
It's now May and still no refund! I have contacted them again and the customer service department is unable to explain why the refund has not been issued. She again promised to send the refund request to their accounting and told me I was welcome to call back in a couple weeks to follow-up on it. According to the customer service agent I spoke to, there is no way that I can talk to directly to accounting to get the problem taken care of promptly. After three phone calls and numerous emails to the merchant, they have still not issued a refund for the merchandise that was never shipped. Poor, poor, poor service. I will never do business with them again. Thankfully they only stole a few dollars. If this had been a major purchase, I don’t know what I would do.

I trying to resolve my problem, I started searching online to see if anyone had come up with a good method of retrieving money from these deadbeat curtain merchants. To my dismay, I found dozens of similar complaints from customers across the USA. Some of the complaint sites are:

Beyond the main company name, the USA Wallpaper folks seem to have a network of different company names running various online stores. The ones I know of are:

The country star design is a deep wine gingham accented by the country star pattern on the tone on tone hem. Black, red and tan gingham accent the stars on the hem. Thank you for visiting and sorry for the delay in getting this out to you. I had hoped to introduce a new pattern every week, but that just didn't happen. I will try to be more diligent in getting the rest of them out to you.

The new pattern this week is the Midnight Star design. Midnight is a marvelous combination of black, tan and red. The under layer is a small plaid pattern while the pointed layer is a subtle stripe in tan, red and black accented by an appliqued black star. This country valance is 5 star for quality and country decor appeal. All of the pieces are fully lined and the drapes and panels include matching tie-backs. A few of my favorite pieces are shown below.

The Checker Berry design (manufactured by IHF) is dominated by a wine and tan check cotton fabric with embroidered berry vine and wine berries. The Snowmen Dolls are Back!

I am simply amazed at the number of primitive snowmen (and snowwomen) dolls available online. There are big ones, little ones, set of three and pairs of two. There are snowman lamps, snowman pillows, dolls, curtains, table cloths and table runners. You name it - there's a snowman version available somewhere.
In my niche, there are a wide variety of pricing and shipping options. Country Sampler boasts a pretty good assortment, but they seem to have higher prices than other retailers. Ebay has a wide variety of snowman collectibles, but you have to pick through a lot of junk to find the good stuff. Stitches and Baskets has a pretty good selection and very reasonable prices. The best place (IMHO) to find primitive snowmen is Primitive Home Decors in the, you guessed it, Snowman category. They have fast shipping on most of the most popular snowmen. I saved pictures of some of my personal favorites below. Which one do you like best?

June Construction Progress

Greg Hillan and company made great progress on our new country home during June. The framing and roof were completed and the put in the windows before starting on the brick and stone work. Since these pictures were taken, they have done the electrical and plumbing rough in work and started on the drywall. Kate picked out the plumbing fixtures this week and Greg ordered the cabinetry and the appliances.

Country Curtains

Found some great curtain ideas from Park Designs. These came from the country curtains section at Primitive Home Decor.

I love these Willow and Sheep Valances:

The Ohio Star valances are cool, but might not work with our new home decor.

These Honey and Spice curtains would brighten up just about any room. They would look great in the kitchen.

Cabin Quilt design is much more subdued than the Honey and Spice, but very rustic / country feel to them.

These Homestead design valances might just do the trick. Simple design for simple folks living in the country. (Even though we're really not that far out in the country.

Framing goes pretty fast in the country

They let the concrete harden for a few days before the framing started, but they didn't waste any time getting the walls up. From Monday to Friday, they framed the entire basement, framed all the exterior walls and started putting up weather proofing and framed the intior walls. WOW!!!

This is the rear elevation. So much for the concrete patio... Looks like a great spot for a deck.

They are going so fast, Kate will be challenged to get everything picked out by the time they are ready to install.

Not more than a day after the excavator dug this huge hole in the side of the hill, the concrete crew from Weber Concrete showed up to pour the footer and set the concrete forms to pour the basement walls. These guys move FAST!!!

Big Gravel, Little Since

The excavators got the big #2 gravel spread in the driveway last Thursday, but they haven't done a whole lot since then. The gravel is hard to drive on (even in the truck) but it's even harder to walk on in boots. The dog (Buddy) prefers to walk in the muddy grassy areas and I can't say I would argue with him if I didn't understand what muddy feet do to carpet...
Kate is still working on the pictures from last week so I will get those posted as soon as they are available. Several great pictures, they just haven't been processed yet. Even got a couple pictures of Jesse on his birthday with his 3 finger salute to the new project.
Somewhat disappointed today because they didn't start digging the basement. No word from the contractor yet on the timeline, but I'm sure he has a good reason for the timing. Looking forward to rapid progress once they get all the subcontractors lined up.

The House is Started!

We have been planning a new house for over 2 years now. After planning and drawing and budgeting and meeting with builders and then redrawing and rebudgeting and doing it all over again, Andy reports the house construction is finally getting started.

There were 2 bulldozers and a Bobcat delivered yesterday. They only had to pull down one tree to clear out the path for the driveway. This was done on Monday April 14th. Jay reported they had taken out some of the fencing to get the driveway out past the barn and did a little dirt moving, but not too much.

Hopefully they will get a little further tomorrow. Maybe interest rates will go down a bit before the construction loan gets through. We'll see.

Hello and welcome to the first entry in my Country Decor product blog. After years of hearing all the hype about blogging and the "blogosphere", I finally decided to give blogger a try. I'm anxious to hear what you think of the posts and welcome your feedback on topics and products that relate to country / primitive decorating.

A little about me... I started a primitive decor website in 2006 and have been exploring this amazing industry ever since. The number of crafters and country product manufacturers continues to amaze me. There are literally thousands of fantastic country decor products in the market today.
